Shawn began practicing alignment-based yoga to aid in his recovery after a major auto accident. Feeling a calling to share the physical, mental, and spiritual benefits of the practice with others, Shawn completed his 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) Training and has been teaching at the Delaware House since December 2010. Shawn stays true to the very authentic and traditional teachings of his lineage of teachers, originating in Bombay with Fr. Joe Pereira, one of B.K.S. Iyengar’s first students. These teachings are disciplined and heartfelt with a spiritual emphasis and have been used as an adjunct component to the twelve-step program in addiction recovery. In 2021, Shawn earned his Kripa Foundation Iyengar Yoga (KFIY) Teacher Certification in Fr. Joe’s inaugural certification class. After adhering to his teachings for over a decade, Fr. Joe has certified Shawn to utilize yoga in a clinical setting as an adjunct therapy to help those afflicted by addiction.
