Improve the flexibility of both your mind and body. Take a yoga class by one of the Delaware House Registered Yoga Teachers (RYT). The Delaware House offers both morning and evening yoga classes. All classes take place in the upper loft which has hardwood floors, mirrors and skylights that help create a warm, peaceful setting to develop your yoga practice. The Delaware House also supplies you with matts, straps and blocks if you need them.
Each yoga teacher has their own style and they take their yoga practice and teachings very seriously.
Shawn Selk teaches Advanced Yoga. Shawn Selk practices alignment-based hatha yoga in the tradition of his mentor Fr. Joe Pereira’s Kripa Foundation Iyengar Yoga. Fierce attention is paid to the alignment of the body, aided by using props such as belts, blocks, blankets, chairs, etc., so as to practice safely and effectively as well as to align with one’s spirit and its purpose (dharma).
Annie teaches Partner Yoga. Annie’s favorite yoga class to teach is Partner Yoga, which she began teaching during her 200-Hour certification in 2018. She believes it is a beautiful way to connect with others and develop trust, non-verbal communication skills, and experience respectful human touch, which can help lower anxiety and decrease blood pressure.
Partner Yoga is held on the second Friday of each month and those interested are invited to bring a friend, life partner, or favorite teen (age 16+). Whether participants hope to share a unique date night, enjoy a non-competitive physical activity, or just connect more deeply, they will be encouraged to join in whatever ways they are comfortable. In each 90-minute practice we’ll take time to center and explore asanas (postures) for two including seated, standing, balancing, and basic Acro Yoga poses. No experience is necessary as long as one has the desire to try something new, be imperfect, and share the “lila” (laughter in Sanskrit). We accompany each class w/ relaxing music and close with relaxation or meditation. Yoga mats and props are always available or participants may bring their own. Classes are $35 per pair and space is limited to 7 pairs.
Rooted in the tradition of Kripa Foundation Iyengar Yoga, this class is suitable for all students at all levels of experience; accommodations and variations will be offered. Props such as blankets, blocks, straps, and chairs are used to encourage safe, supported, proper alignment. Through the foundation of asana (physical postures) and pranayama (breath control) the aim of this practice is to guide each individual toward a deepening awareness and understanding of the mind, body, spirit connection.
